Our story

Drawn in wax, dyed in colour

Batik tulis is drawn entirely by hand. The artist guides molten wax through a copper spout onto the cloth, line by line, following the pattern without a stencil. The wax resists the dye, so each dip of the cloth in colour fills in the spaces the wax has left open — and every sleeve carries that hand-drawn rhythm. Tulis takes this canvas from Java's workshops and lines it with soft padding, so a laptop travels in cloth made by hand.

How it's made

The batik canvas is hand-drawn with wax in a Javanese workshop, then dyed and the wax boiled out. It is lined with soft padding and a plush inner layer, closed with a zip, so a laptop is cradled in hand-crafted cloth.

How to use it

Slide the laptop into the sleeve and zip it closed. It fits snugly in a bag or carries on its own. The padded walls protect against bumps and scratches on the daily commute.

Good to know

How do I care for it?

Spot-clean with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, and let it dry out of direct sun. The canvas is sturdy and needs little more than a wipe to stay fresh.

Which size should I choose?

Measure the diagonal of your laptop screen. The sleeve is cut to that size with a little room, so choose the size that matches your screen — 13, 14, 15 or 16 inch.

What is it made from?

A cotton canvas with the batik pattern, lined with soft padding and a plush inner layer. The padded walls cushion a laptop from bumps and scratches on the way to work.

Will the colour fade?

Batik is dyed to be colour-fast, but like all natural cloth it is best kept out of harsh direct sunlight for long periods. Spot-clean with a damp cloth when needed.

Is the pattern printed?

No — Tulis batik is drawn by hand with wax in a Javanese workshop. The slight irregularities and rhythm of the lines are the mark of a real hand-drawn cloth.

What is batik tulis?

It is hand-drawn batik — molten wax is guided by hand onto the cloth through a copper spout, then the cloth is dyed. The wax resists the dye, so the pattern emerges in the spaces left open. Every piece is unique.
